Back in 2004 a Welsh Assembly Initiative looked at the need for a support base for students with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder in a mainstream school setting. Fairwater High School was approached and asked to host this base that would offer places for students from across South East Wales.
In June 2005 the Language and Communication Base was officially opened by Jane Davidson AM, Minister for Education and Lifelong learning.
Our vision is that all the students who access the base will receive a personalised education which enables them to reach their potential academically and equips them with skills to engage in society as active citizens.
The base is staffed by myself, a teacher and a team of 8 LSA’s who are all trained in ASD.
