For most of us, when we hear the words ‘extra-curricular activities’, we think of sporting activities such as football, rugby and hockey. Fairwater has a long tradition of producing outstanding sports teams, a tradition that’s being upheld by today’s students. Alongside the usual sports, there’s badminton, basketball, keep fit, street dance and trampolining, all guaranteed to meet the needs of our current crop of future sports stars.

Beyond sport, though, we now have a whole host of extra-curricular activities to cater for a wide range of interests and tastes. IT Club attracts all ages (it’s not just about Minecraft!), linguists are catered for with French and Welsh Clubs, and Band Rehearsal and Choir Practice are music to my ears. Sorry.

Furthermore, there are more leftfield pursuits out there. Chess is increasingly popular not just on its designated day (Chess Club is on a Monday) but during every lunchtime, and Family History Club in the History Department allows pupils to trace their ancestry in a ‘Who do you think you are?’ style. Except without the tears.

On top of all of this, the Library is open every night after school, from 3 pm to 4 pm, so you’ve got no excuse for not doing your homework.

With over thirty clubs across the week, there is something for everyone.  Check the leaflet attached for details.

A big ‘thank you’ to the staff for putting on the sessions, and to the pupils who turn up, week in, week out.
